To focus on burglaries and vandalism, we are starting a section for Neighbourhood Watch. This section will be used and edited by the Neighbourhood Watch team within Burwood Park, to keep us informed of security matters.
* HOW NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH WORKS
Burwood Park is divided into six areas.
Each area has a number of co-ordinators.
These co-ordinators are responsible for specific houses.
Co-ordinators keep neighbours informed on security issues.
Maintain an information network with the local police.
Area co-ordinators meet every three months to exchange ideas & concerns.
* MAKING CONTACT WITH THE POLICE
Life threatening emergency:- dial 999

*CAR THEFT
If you have to park your car on the driveway please ensure you lock it whenever you return to your house, even for a short period.
If you park it overnight use a wheel lock and ensure it is parked in an area covered by security lights. Burglars do not like light!
Satellite Navigation systems are often easy pickings for thieves as they are portable, small and costly. Wherever the cradle is portable, owners are advised to remove it along with the navigational device. Use a UV pen to mark the equiment with your postcode or car registration number.
* WARNING TO DRINKERS
Particularly relevant to unsuspecting ladies in crowded bars, clubs and pubs. Spiking of drinks is on the increase. Police advice is as follows:-
Never accept drinks from strangers.
Be present when your drink is served from the bar.
Never leave your drink unattended.
Try and drink from a bottle which is easier to secure.
Don't let your lady friend leave without you. |
 |
*STOLEN IDENTITY
This is a growing modern problem. Even if you use the blue topped recycling wheelie bin for your waste paper, make sure all confidential waste is shredded completely first. If you buy a shredder get one with a diagonal cut so the strips cannot be glued together. It is particularly important to shred offers from Credit Card companies and other financial companies as they print some of your key data on the application forms. |
